Dallas Black Dance Theatre: Dancing Beyond Borders

Opaque is such a graceful work, DBDT: Encore! dancers appear to glide across the stage. Nycole Ray choreographed the mysterious dance. In Nineteenth, another Ray showpiece, the dancers pay tribute to the heroic saga of women who pursued the right to vote and gained equality. Some Moan For Love, by the late Darryl B. Sneed, is a solo that expresses the sentiment of love in hopes of reciprocation.

Simply put, Dana is undoubtedly a force of nature. Dana released her first album, Be Alive, before moving to New York City. During her time in New York Dana graced the stages of The Apollo Theater and Madison Square Garden. Dana's career has taken her all around the world and one of her proudest accomplishments to date is being a Top 20 contestant on season 11 of NBC's hit tv show "The Voice,” as a member of Blake Shelton's Team.
Bridget L. Moore, a native of Dallas, TX is the Artistic Director of B. MOORE DANCE. Moore’s choreographic works provide both cultural and kinesthetic experiences rooted in African-American and global dance aesthetics. She has received choreographic commissions from TITAS, Ailey II, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Urban Bush Women, to name a few. In addition, Moore’s work has been presented at, Jacob’s Pillow, Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre, Winspear Opera House, The Joyce Theater, and Ailey Citigroup Theater, among others.

SMU Dance: Spring Dance Concert
March 23-27 | 8pm | Bob Hope Theatre In-Person or Virtual
The Dance Fabric of Dallas is the Meadows Spring Dance Concert, featuring the work of three local dance artists whose individual work represents the core of the of Dallas dance. The concert opens with a work by Joy Bollinger, artistic director for Bruce Wood Dance, titled A Winter’s Day, which uses music from 60s, 70s, 80s to explore the Vietnam War, cyclical nature of time, cultural shifts and searching for change. It will be followed by a piece by Zack Ingram, founder and artistic director of 6 o'Clock Dance Theatre, titled Journey. The concert concludes with new work by Michelle Gibson, choreographer/arts activist in the dance conservatory at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, titled Pan…Them…Ic. This experimental piece deals with the global pandemic and focuses on the use of dance and art to heal. Oak Cliff Flamenco Festival: Memorias Flamencas

Tejas Dance: kadAcit: Once Upon A Time

Tejas Dance will transport audiences to a far-away mystical land in India, at a time when humans lived in harmony with nature and our lives were intertwined and cohesive.
kadAcit will provide a passage to a world where rules and principles were governed by something much simpler – Love. Tejas Dance will premiere a theatrical dance production, in Bharatanatyam margam format with an exciting brand-new score. Come experience the whimsical journey through inspiring and exciting stories and poetry.
A traditional Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance form) repertoire is called a Margam. This framework was created in South India in the early 19th century. It is a well-thoughtout plan to approach a dance performance in Bharatanatyam. Margam, literally means a path. The sequence of dances in the Margam are set to facilitate the physical and spiritual journey towards self-discovery.

Bombshell Dance Project: The Great 30

Inspired by the experimental nature of the Elevator Project, the production proposed is an interactive, site-specific, dance performance taking place on a complete tour of the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Using the entirety of the campus as a stage, Bombshell Dance Project will lead audiences on an active tour of the Center, including its outdoor spaces, during which they not only change locations with the performers, but also move with them. In many parts of the show, the audience will be asked to move with the performers through very simple choreographed exercises designed to both get the audience moving and activate their creative minds. The show’s title, The Great 30, refers to 30 movements used throughout the performance, although no memorization will ever be necessary. Throughout the performance, the audience will travel with the performers to each location, sometimes moving and sometimes watching pieces of site-specific dance work created by choreographers Emily Bernet and Taylor Rodman to fit these unique spaces. The choreographers are working to be inclusive of a variety of mobility levels and will collaborate with Center staff to ensure seating, assistance moving between locations, and adherence to all ADA regulations.

BRUCE WOOD DANCE brings original, innovative choreography back to the stage at at Moody Performance Hall in UNITE on Friday + Saturday, June 4 + 5 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, June 6 at 2:00 PM. The performances are limited to 207 seats per show with social distancing. Masks are required. The show runs for 65 minutes without intermission.
Featuring captivating works by Bruce Wood, and world premieres by Omar Román De Jesús and artistic director Joy Bollinger, this program will uplift and intrigue with touching humanity and spectacular imagery.

Very Good Dance Theatre: TENANTS/TENETS

TENANTS/TENETS is a futurist dance theatre performance that spontaneously generates a fully functioning society in which its community must determine their responsibility to each other, based on their individual identities, in 90 minutes.
Technology (i.e. projections, interactive social media elements, responsive sound cues) will assist in creating the society in which the performance will occur. Throughout the process of creating this work, an interview process will devise the performance which will also create an experiential encounter for the audience, revealing the process behind the performance through engaging the audience in the interview process. This will inform the actions of the performance by both the audience and the performers, while blurring the lines between witness and participant.

Over the Bridge Arts: First Draft

FIRST DRAFT opens with artists from Echo Theatre reading opening scenes from selected entries to their “Big Shout Out 3 - International New Play Contest for Women+ Playwrights.” Hot off the printer, these First Draft appetizers will leave audiences hungry for the main course! The contest winner and finalists will be produced in full by Echo Theatre in 2022. (Note: Echo Theater is using the term “women-plus” to represent the expansive and diverse array of people who identify as women in ways that are significant to them.)
In the second half, “The Pollinators” is an original satirical musical that deals with authoritarian hot head characters who would flaunt science, undermine progress and commit unlawful acts. It’s under the helm of writer/spoken word artist CJ Critt, who has been creating stage works, audio books, music, and stand up poetry in Dallas for 30 years. “The Pollinators” is a multi-generational creative project with four contributing composers, Dallas theater director Jake Nice, and a diverse cast including Ellen Eberhart, Natalie King, Christian Joelle, Steven Smith, and Braden Socia. With an engaging pop and rock score from area jazz artist Rebecca Cordes, podcast wizard Morgan Clarke, composer John Prestiani, and seasoned tunesmith Barry Young, the script is both hilarious and tender as love triumphs and the bees prevail.
FIRST DRAFT is supported by the Communities Foundation of Texas and hosted by The Wild Detectives in Oak Cliff, Dallas.

Guest artist Alicia Graf Mack performs a sentimental solo Don’t Stop from a New York City rooftop. The music was composed by Academy award-winning artist Jon Batiste. Dean and Director of Dance at The Juilliard School, Graf Mack was a former principal dancer at both the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Dance Theatre of Harlem during her esteemed career.
Choreographer Claude Alexander III takes you on an emotional journey through the process of forgiveness and unconditional love in his full company work, A Tender Pardon.
Evidence of Souls Not Seen choreographed by Lloyd Whitmore is a beautiful requiem that expresses mourning of the deaths for those we hold close to our hearts.

#DigitalConnection is presented by mixtamotus, a human-digital interface art exploration. It is diverse collaborative work that blends dance, music, and video mapping technology to create an immersive new media performance in the Dallas Arts District at the Wyly Theatre Potter Rose Performance Hall. The performance concludes with a post-show, behind-the-scenes experience including a facilitated Q&A with the collaborators, photo/video opportunities, and technology playtime. This new work was conceptualized in response to the current siloed social environment in the United States. mixtamotus (mm) offers #DigitalConnection as commentary on the importance of human connection, community, and creativity in the digital age. mm acknowledges the impact of the digital age and creates an opportunity to experience and discuss the impact of technology on art, art-making, artists, and our world. Technology creates opportunities for understanding other perspectives. Through that relationship, one is able to imagine new possibilities for the future. Content for this project is sourced from the digital space including Instagram polls, Instagram/Facebook Live conversations, and Instagram Stories ‘Questions’. SHIFT features performances by dance technique students, a piece by alumna Alondra Puentes, and the work of faculty members Danielle Georgiou, Kiera Amison, and Robert Alvarez. Guest artists include Melissa Sanderson, YeaJean Choi, Martheya Nygaard, Lori Sundeen Soderbergh, and professional companies the Danielle Georgiou Dance Group and Muscle Memory Dance Theatre.
All dances will be filmed following CDC guidelines.
