Agora Artists is a young arts service organization run by dancers, for dancers. We are focused on providing programming and resources that contribute to a supportive ecosystem for dance in DFW. Through workshops, forums, and other creative resources Agora Artists aims to assist individual dancers in maintaining an active and sustainable creative life.
Avery-Jai Andrews is a Dallas-based artist-entrepreneur pursuing community-centered initiatives. She is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (BTWHSPVA) and holds a BFA in dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. As a student and freelance artist, Avery-Jai traveled and lived abroad in Austria, Israel, Italy, and Germany. In 2017 she founded Don’t Ask Why, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dance company. Originally, the organization’s purpose was producing original dance productions, but after restructuring its mission has expanded to be a platform that develops and supports the local dance community -- Agora Artists. Avery-Jai is the Marketing and Social Media Director for Arts Mission Oak Cliff. She is also a Pilates instructor at Duro Pilates, one of the only local group reformer studios in Oak Cliff. As a performer, Avery-Jai is a member of cullen+them, a NY-based company that aims to create an empathetic community through socially-conscious movement and text work. She is also involved in the organization's youth education program, social media and marketing strategy, in addition to being their public relations representative. Most recently, Avery-Jai has been tasked with organizing the official BTWHSPVA Alumni Association. As a Creative and Dallasite, she is committed to making Dallas a haven for artists.
Lauren Kravitz is a freelance dance artist living in Dallas, TX. She received her early training from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dance. While living in New York, Lauren was a member of Seán Curran Company, where she performed at venues including the New Victory Theater (NYC), The Wooden Floor (Santa Ana, CA), the Prince Theater (Philadelphia, PA) and most recently at Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival, among others. She was also a member of Take Dance and performed with the company at Symphony Space (NYC), The West End Theater (NYC), and Joe’s Pub (NYC), among others. Lauren is a co-creator and performer, alongside Shantel Prado, of the performance duo bait, whose work has been presented throughout New York at venues including the Jack Crystal Theater and Gibney Dance. Lauren is a guest artist with New York-based Indah Walsh Dance Company. She has worked with the company since 2105 at the Watermill Center (NY), the Seattle Asian Art Museum (Seattle, WA), Danspace Project (NYC), and Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), among others. Lauren currently works at Arts Mission Oak Cliff and teaches dance around the DFW metroplex. She is committed to creating opportunities for connection and support for dancers in Dallas, and is humbled to be a founding contributor to Agora Artists.
